If you’re wondering what to do for Halloween this year, we’ve got you covered! Spooky season might look a little different this year, but that doesn’t mean you can’t have fun safely. Houston is brimming with opportunities to get your scare on, dress up, and trick-or-treat. With social distancing, drive-thru options, and virtual events, there is a Halloween event to fit everyone’s comfort level. We did some digging and rounded up our favorite Houston Halloween events to experience this year.

Dewberry Farms is a must on your Halloween bingo card. The family-friendly venue is an Instagrammers dream, with pumpkin patches at every corner and all of the fall vibes. Aside from the pumpkin patch where you can pick your very own to take home, there is a corn maze and attractions.

Zoo Boo at Houston Zoo

Zoo Boo is one of the most anticipated Halloween events from the year. Live on the wild side and dress up in costume to party with the animals. There will be a spooky “Scary-Go-Round,” a virtual costume contest, and 10 different Instagram-worthy photo opps.

Pumpkin Planters at Houston Arboretum

Location: Houston Arboretum & Nature Center

Kid-friendly: Ages 5 and up. 

Elevate your front porch game for the season. With the help of Houston Arboretum & Nature Center, your home will exceed all the #fallgoals. Register for the event and pick up your planter kit at the Nature Center on Oct. 15 or 16. On Saturday afternoon, the Houston Arboretum & Nature Center will be hosting a Zoom class to learn how to put your planter together.

Science Spooktacular: A Week of Halloween Fun

Sugar Land is hosting its annual Halloween Town event at Constellation Park. To keep guests safe, temperatures will be taken at the entrance and masks will be required.

Movies Under the Moon Halloween Edition

Put a spell on the season with the quintessential holiday movie: “Hocus Pocus.” Kings Harbor will be hosting a movie under the moon with a 32-foot-wide screen near The Green. Spaced out squares will enforce safe seating at six feet apart. Bring your picnic blanket and enjoy the ghostly gags of the Sanders sisters!

Boo on the Boardwalk

Kemah Boardwalk is getting into the spooky spirit. Live music, trick-or-treating, monster stilt walkers, and a “Little Boo” haunted house are just a few of the festivities to expect on the boardwalk. The family-friendly event will be happening every weekend through Halloween.

Howl-o-Ween at Katy Dog Park

Tandem Trick or Treat at Riva Row Boat House

Kid-friendly: Recommended for ages 10 and under. Children under 10 must have an adult over 16 with them in the kayak.

Add a little friendly competition to your candy eating. Enjoy a tandem kayaking on Lake Woodlands to hunt for Halloween candy. Pro tip: kids in costumes will get an extra treat!

Galveston Ghost Tour

Location: Haunted Mayfield Manor

Mayfield Manor was built in 1867, but the manor was once home to a morgue after the 1900 storm. With a rich and spooky history, prepare to get a scare on one of the manor’s haunted ghost tours.

Just north of Houston lies a quiet little town that happens to be the sixth most haunted Old West town in the United States. Get a taste of history and horror on a ghost watching tour as you look for signs of paranormal activity. Haunted dolls, disembodied voices, and the curse of the Orcoquisac Tribe are just a few of the scary stories you’ll learn about. You might even capture an apparition on camera!
